I didn’t start school until the age of 4, I was put in all these nonsense jeleosimi. Well, where I come from, things have changed now though, you wouldn’t start school until you can speak and do anything toddlers do. If we would go by normal primary school curriculum, I should round off primary school at age 12. Oh wow! I think that’s late. I don’t know how it happened, (well, I do) at that age 12, I was in Junior Secondary School Three! Wow! I got double promotions two times in primary school and my father promoted me himself to J.S.S 1 from Primary four.
As a smart kid, well not so smart, I gained admission while on my way to 15 and well, graduated before 20. Well, I’m just here to have a meeting with 20’s club gang like mine anyway. In my short stay on this earth, I’ll like to share with you some experiences and see finish that I’ve witnessed in this life.
Small sense.
People that graduate before 20 don’t have plenty sense like that. We’re book smart, of course. I’ve met a lot of really young intelligent people like me. But that part of your brain that you need to live through life, it’s not complete. Some of us are really childish, I can’t even stand them. Even those one that look really mature, it’s because you’ve not gone so close to them. If you do ehn, you’ll know what’s up. Some people learn life the hard way, make some really stupid and very unnecessary mistakes and some, luckily for them, have people around them and are willing to catch some sagacious advice from time to time.
What to do in life.
Well, for some people, they have all the connections and they have one uncle or daddy that can easily fix them somewhere, as long as money is in it. And even with that, it just shows you never had any fixed thing in mind to do anyway. Some of us just want to fit in somewhere so it doesn’t look like you’re unemployed. Anyways, I feel a lot of graduates go through this phase tho, I mean, what’s there to do in this country? Well, if you have a passion, stay with it. There’s something like time and chance.
Youngest amongst your peers.
If you graduate before 20, trust me, you’d just be seeing your seniors all around you. You can’t even mistakenly tell your age, the elders will start ranting about how young you really are and things like that. Well, you that are older now, are we not in the same place? The best thing is just to keep quiet about it, you can lie too, but don’t get caught. What some of those people don’t know is just that age is just but a number. Sometimes, I look at myself and wonder why I’m actually not a year older than my actual age. But what’s the rush?
Everybody treats you like a child.
See why I told you not to allow people know your age? They’ll start treating you like a baby. You can’t go out without mummy disturbing you with calls. I mean, when I was in school did you know what I was doing? Were you with me? So why are you now monitoring my movement? If outsiders don’t know your age, they won’t treat you somehow but you know your family knows everything about you. They’re the ones that’ll give you headache. Small play, ‘am I your mate?’, ‘we’ve played too much’. Sorry unku, don’t be offended.
‘Were you born…’
They’re playing one Fela and the next thing is, ‘where you born when he sang it?, where you even alive when he died?’ No I’m not. Grandpas. You senior me, senior me, you’ve not born my type. If you say that one now, they’ll say they would have, kanipe it is as they’re borning children in the world that those children are borning their own too. Well, it’s not like that. See yourself now? That’s how one of those Aunties asked if I knew Daddy Showkey the other day. Razz razz people. Please, kindly geddifok.
I hope you found my stories relatable tho, thank you for coming to my Tedtalk. I remain the 20’s girl, for life. Lol
