Six months right? I need to do more!

And when I look back in time,

reflecting on what has been,

and what could have been,

let it not be that I never tried my best.

I’m not sure I heard this from anyone, so I guess you can add my name to the quote. (lol)

It’s been an interesting year for me.

Now, ‘interesting’ doesn’t equate – fun; at least not in my dictionary…

2023 for me, has been a rollercoaster and that’s mostly because it was the year I made up my mind to do that wjich I think is best for me – learning Product Management.

It’s been six wholesome months of learning and whilst the journey has not been a smooth one, I’m grateful for the gift of people and more, for God’s strength.

How I got into Product Management

The first day I heard about Product Management, I looked up the term, to really understand what it entailed, also, to be able to distinguish it from Project Management.

When I became convinced, I applied through financial aid for some courses on Coursera and I literally gave these courses my all.

I also enrolled in Side Hustle Internship, Entry Level Internship and Tech4Dev Bootcamp.

I’m currently a beneficiary of the Girls In Tech Makeathon of which V Bank is a sponsor.

I also registered for the Women Techsters Fellowship for 2024 and I look forward to being selected.

I’ve been a part of other trainings but these are the ones that really stood out for me.

Being a part of these training sessions helped me learn to use some required tools in PM such as Trello, Miro, Whimsical, ClickUp, Jira.

Within these six months, I’ve also volunteered in three projects and they are still ongoing.

All these may seem minute, but to me, they are some form of achievements and on some days when I feel so clueless, I hope I remember that I’ve been trying…

The path to success doesn’t have to be lonely!

My Product Management journey, if I’m being honest, hasn’t been a lonely one.

Yes, I’ve been putting in work, I’ve shed ugly tears out of frustration.

(This is more because, to effectively transition, I took a paycut at work and I fear my relevance at my current workplace is quickly diminishing and if you’re into the work system, you know what that means…)

Above all, I am grateful, and I am very happy that I have a support system; people who keep cheering me on; some of them I even met within these six months of learning PM.

I look forward to the opportunities the rest of 2023 brings my way!
